Tanburs are manufactured with seven or eight strings.
However, a different string set can be used according to the sequence.
The tanburs with eight strings are generally equipped with the strings in accordance with the following string sequence and thickness:
(1–2) 0.30 steel string
(3–4) 0.40 bronze string
(5–6) 0.30 steel string
(7) 0.40 bronze string
(8) 0.60 bronze string
The tanburs with seven strings are generally equipped with the strings in accordance with the following string sequence and thickness:
The first string connection type:
(1–2) 0.30 steel string
(3–4) 0.40 bronze string
(5–6) 0.30 steel string
(7) 0.60 bronze string
The second string connection type:
(1–2) 0.30 steel string
(3–4) 0.40 bronze string
(5) 0.30 steel string
(6) 0.40 bronze string
(7) 0.60 bronze string
The tanburs with seven strings can be connected via these two connection types; however, general use required the first connection type.
I determined that the tanbur performers had had difficulties in finding strings in packages a while ago.
I introduced the strings that I had specifically imported and packaged and that I have been using for my own tanburs for the use of the tanbur performers a while ago.
These imported strings are suitable for professional use, their concords are high and they are resistant to darkening.
A string set consists of 4 pieces of 0.30 steel string, 3 pieces of 0.40 bronze string and 1 piece of 0.60 bronze string.
